To begin there are no side walk laws/regulations in Newberg. You may say who cares -- but try running with a jogging stroller and a dog down the middle of the street and you may change your tune. The problem is not the lack of sidewalks but the inconsistency. It would be better if no yards had sidewalks but NO! sidewalks randomly start and stop where they please -- makes you feel like a schizophrenic when you are running. Thus the ideal Newberg walking/running site is the cemetery. For months I feared doing leisure activity in the cemetery but sidewalk frustration pushed me over the edge. I make Holli shut off her music to respect the dead, she thinks I am crazy but come on there is no need for Kenny Chesney in the cemetery. Other good running places are parking lots and today Lincon's nanny just went in circles in the garage -- at least that protects you from the rain. Sidewalks in Newberg come in various widths; some not wide enough for stroller/dog combo. Some sidewalks meet the street with a ramp, some not, some ramps too narrow for any good use, some with rumple strips, some not. They come in an assortment of materials as well: concrete, pavement, rock, trail, and mud. The weirdest thing is that many dogs defecate right on the sidewalk - "People at least push it into the grass!" -- try doing a hop skip jump with dog/stroller combo from pseudo-sidewalk to street. Next time you want to complain about city regulation of sidewalks think again...
